Stephanie’s Dress / DIY Balloon Arch / White Play Tent (tee pee)
Stephanie dreamed up this gorgeous bohemian themed baby shower all by herself. She even handled all the decor and design along with friends and family! In my opinion, this is the PERFECT gender neutral baby shower theme! And I love how it reflects her own personal boho style. The colors were, of course very neutral with creams and beiges throughout. There were beautiful macrame details with dried pampas like flowers to go along with the boho vibe. Typically, when I think of a bohemian themed party, my first thoughts go to dream catchers and flower crowns, but I love the different, earthy vibes of this different take on a boho theme. Her beautiful dress is from etsy and I have linked it above.
A Non Traditional Baby Shower
When Stephanie first reached out to me about photographing her baby shower, I initially declined because I was supposed to be away that weekend. But when our plans changed, she was thrilled about the good news, and ended up booking me for her shower and I am so glad she did!
Mama to be, Stephanie, envisioned more of a party than traditional sit down baby shower and even hired a DJ to emcee the event, play music and lead the baby shower games. She wanted her guests to fully relax and let loose especially after the year everyone has had! And I think her guests really appreciated that! It was fun to get some dance floor pics that I don’t normally get at a daytime baby shower. She did not want to open gifts during the shower, but played quite a few really fun baby shower games. The best baby shower game involved the men at the shower (it was co-ed) drinking their beer out of a baby bottle! It was the perfect way to make the men feel comfortable in a setting that is more traditionally women and everyone had a blast!
I love the pampas grass decor! And her signage was on point! Also how cute are the pillows, meditation cushion and fluffy blanket. I love how all the different textures combine to tell a story. Stephanie definitely has a future in party planning if she wants it!
The Perfect Gender Neutral Baby Shower Theme
The venue, Stony Hill Inn, in Hackensack, New Jersey had some tricky lighting situations. I had shot events at this venue before, but unfortunately, this was my last time shooting here. Shortly after this event the venue closed, citing they could not come back after the many covid cancellations. Ultimately, building was torn down and a retirement or assisted living facility is being built in its place.
At the time of the shower, Stephanie didn’t know if she was having a boy or a girl. Initially, when she hired me, the plan was to combine a surprise gender reveal into the baby shower. The DJ was going to flash pink and blue lights and announce to everyone- including Stephanie and her husband what they were having. In the end, they decided they wanted to be surprised and scrapped this plan but I’m sharing it because I thought it was a great idea for anyone looking for unique gender reveal ideas and this was one I had never seen before!
Towards the end of the shower, we even took two group pictures- one with everyone who predicted she would have a boy and one with the guests who were on team girl. I am happy to now report that team boy won and Stephanie has a beautiful son!
Baby Shower Games
Stephanie had a nice combination of organized and announced baby shower games that all of the guests of the shower played at the same time, and a bunch of ongoing games set up near the dessert table as you can see below. For example, a diaper raffle, team boy or girl, a jenga game, guess what age and so many more. See below for the full list!
Here is a list of the baby shower games played at Stephanie’s co-ed baby shower.

Baby Shower Jenga

Team Boy / Team Girl
Stephanie and Joe decided to wait to find out if they were having a boy or a girl. They wanted to document their co-ed baby shower with a team girl pic (left) and team boy pic (right). Turns out team boy was right!

Glowing Mama to BeThe lighting was tricky in so many parts of this venue, but in the ballroom itself there were these beautiful floor to ceiling windows that worked perfectly to light photos. I tried to stick as close to them as possible to get well lit shots!
Stephanie’s bohemian hair was my favorite part of her look. The beautiful boho braids looked effortless and perfectly matched the theme of the party. Her glam team (Lace Does Hair and K10 Cosmetics, both located in Northern New Jersey) was incredible and I want to hire them for my next event!
The Baby Shower Venue
Stephanie chose the Stoney Hill Inn, located in Hackensack, New Jersey for her shower venue. Unfortunately, this venue recently closed!

There is nothing more boho than a naked cake!
The dessert table had everything from cake pops to donuts, candy, chocolate covered pretzels and more!
Baby Shower Gifts
Stephanie and Joe opted not to open gifts at their coed baby shower. Joe owns a dump truck company so the Good Night Dump Truck book was the perfect gift! If you want more baby shower book ideas, check out my baby shower Amazon List!
Baby Shower Favors
As people were leaving they could take a mini pie to go with the cutest favor tags.
Stephanie gave out mini pies with customized labels that matched her other signs as party favors!
There you have it! Thank you so much for reading. I loved photographing this event and I hope you enjoyed it too. I see so many pink and blue baby showers and I really loved the earthy vibe of this one. I really think this is the perfect theme!
