How to Unlock Your V860ii Godox Flash for Sony or Nikon
Just call me the GODOX GIRL!
I’m writing this post because I hope it helps somebody! A few weeks ago, I was photographing my kids’ talent show at their school. They know I’m a photographer and I wasn’t just taking pictures of my kids, but EVERYONE’s kids. It was actually trickier than I thought it was going to be- dark stage with kids flipping around, dancing, doing gymnastics routines, etc. ANYWAY, I’ve got my two cameras (one zoom, one wide) and I’m photographing this thing. I’ve got my Nikon D750 with my 70-200 on one side and my Sony A7iii on the other with a 35 to get the wide shot. I’ve been shooting Nikon for years, but did you know I’m also a sony user? Anyway, I also have godox flashes on each body, one for my Nikon camera and one for Sony. Just as the show starts, I notice my Godox flash for Sony is locked on 1/8 (I never shoot in ttl mode, only manual mode on my flashes) which is closer to full power than I usually shoot.. At first, I didn’t panic and just tried to reset it, like I do my Nikon ones. (I even made a video about How to Reset your Godox Flash.) But it didn’t work! It would not reset! I did a quick search on google and couldn’t find much other than it might be broken and to by a new one, which I did the next day. Luckily, I was able to get through the shoot and work around the flash setting but I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. My new flash came, I began using it and you are not going to believe this, but I’m shooting another event (a bridal shower) and MY NEW GODOX FLASH LOCKS AGAIN ON MY SONY CAMERA! So at this point, I’m like okay, its me. Or the camera. I started thinking there was something wrong with the hot shoe maybe. And I’m still convinced that both sony flashes are broken, never to be fixed again. So I go home, email godox directly and start googling like crazy. Thinking this was going to be a real waste of time, since I had been googling for weeks, I didn’t think I was going to find much, but after reading through tons and tons of forums and comments, I finally found one that recommended holding down the mode button for 3 seconds. I did that and IT WORKED! It unlocked both of my new godox flashes. Apparently, you can INTENTIONALLY lock your flash settings so that you don’t accidentally change them while you are shooting by also holding down the mode button for 3 seconds. It was such an easy fix and I was SO RELIEVED to finally solve this locking question!

I made this short and sweet video that will hopefully help whoever needs it unlock their flash without panicking like I did! Please let me know if this helps you!
